The person is making the change, not you and this happens at their own pace, which depends on trust, hope and confidence. If you find resistance it may be that you are seeking to move too quickly, possibly giving a person too much information too quickly. If this is the case, review your approach and ask the person where they feel they are at within the cycle of change. Evidence of change is seen in three key areas:

Behaviour
Social context
All three areas are often shattered by a custodial sentence. It's better to make small steps and help the family identify and help them to own and celebrate their achievements.
