Dear Colleague
Following on from recent adverse weather around the country I am circulating updated guidance to Southampton schools around the considerations that apply to schools, colleges and other service settings affected by severe weather or utility failure. The document is intended to set out the authority’s expectations around when a school or college might close, particularly in respect of communications.
For your ease of reference this guidance might be shared with members of your Senior Management Team, and stored alongside your existing school/college policy and plans for emergencies and major incidents. It is likely that we will re-circulate this guidance to schools if and when adverse weather conditions affect the City.
I would particularly draw your attention to the need not to share information about the password for announcing school closures too widely as if this needed to change due to malicious use by people it could cause significant disruption and confusion among schools, parents, children and other services.
