Working in a breakfast, after school or holiday club
If you are interested in working with children aged 5-14 years then this is the area for you.
What would I be doing?
Working in this area can be varied and challenging but is it rewarding. You may be involved in running or helping to run a range of activities in a safe friendly environment possibly in a school hall or a community venue close to a school, enabling children to relax, play and develop in a non school environment. You may also be involved in preparing/supervising meals and snacks.
What skills and qualifications do I need?
To work with children in this sector you need to be non judgemental and approachable. You also need to be able to think on your feet to answer the myriad of questions that children of this age can ask. The qualification required for working in this field is a playwork qualification either at level 2 or level 3. Level 2 is required by playwork assistants and level 3 is needed by the leader/deputy. To find out more about playwork qualifications visit the Skills Active website.
What do I do next?
The Children and Young People's Information Service (CYPIS) holds details of vacancies working in childcare in the Out of School sector in Southampton. If you have a specific enquiry staff at CYPIS (0800 169 8833) will take your details and ask one of our advisors to contact you within 5 working days.
