Survey of Childcare Needs in Southampton

Published 4th May 2010.

Parents across Southampton are being asked for their views on childcare provision in the city as Southampton City Council launches a major survey.

The council has commissioned market research experts Cello MRUK to carry out a telephone survey of parents and carers in the city to find out their views on childcare provision with the aim of looking at how services can be improved.

The survey, which is due to start on the 18th May, will ask parents and carers for their views on whether there is enough childcare in the city, the quality of the care available and whether it is in the right places. The information gathered will be used to help plan the future development and of childcare services in the city.

Pat Hoyes, who leads on childcare development for Southampton City Council, said: “There are over 8,300 childcare places in Southampton, and this has grown by more than 40% over the last five years. But we really need to know whether childcare in Southampton is meeting parents’ needs, and the telephone survey is a great way for us to find out.”

For more information about the survey, or if a parent or carer has any concerns about any aspect of the research, please contact James Marshall, Research and Information Officer, on 023 8083 3015.
