What to do if you are worried about a child
The protection of children is everyone's concern, but would you know what to do if you thought a child was being hurt or abused?
If you think a child is in immediate danger don't delay, contact the police by calling 999.
In Southampton, we also have special arrangements in place to keep all children safe. If you have concerns about a child you can call 023 8083 3336, which is staffed by our Children First team.
You will be asked for:
- the name of the child
- and/or their address.
If the child does not have any current involvement with social services you will be put through to an Information Officer who will take the relevant details of the child. They will also discuss your concerns with you. They will then decide what action can be taken.
Phone line open hours
The phone line is open from 8.30am until 5pm on Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am until 4.30pm on Fridays. There is an out of hours number you can call if you believe it is an emergency. The number for this service is 023 8023 3344.
